Perfect Softball Drills for Girls

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Softball is one of the most popular sports among the girls. Now if you are coaching a girl’s softball team, you should know some softball drills that the team can practice. In order to keep every one in the team active, make sure to include several drills as much as possible. If you keep some of the girls standing during practice sessions, the performance of your team might suffer come game time. If you keep them standing around when you are having infield practice drills which usually requires an active mind set and quick reflexes, then they won’t be able to develop their skills. You can implement infield practice drills that are dynamic and fast moving. You can add these drills the next time you practice or when the team is warming up for a match.

During your practice softball drills, try to look for combination drills with throws to several bases. With these drills, every player in the team will be involved. This way, you can get the most out of your infield practice drills for your girl’s softball team. Once the player hits the ball, she now extends her hand backwards so she can receive the next ball from the catcher. This way, she will be able to watch constantly the scenario in the field. This also makes the hitting process a lot faster and the girls will not have so much time standing around. Instead, they get to spend most of their time moving around.

The pivot foot of your girls needs to be improved as well especially when making the short throw to first. This is an important part of the softball drills. In order to do this, you must first one player stand around the shortstop with some balls who would be your feeder, then another one who will be the receiver standing several steps from the second base while facing the ball feeder. Then you have another player standing on the base line about mid way between the first and second base.

Next, let the feeder throw the ball to the receiver. Then once the receiver catches the ball, she pivots and faces the player on the first base and throws the ball to her. Continue this softball drill and try to do it in a fast manner as time progresses until the feeder has no more balls remaining. Then, let the players exchange positions. The aim of this softball drill is to develop the pivot foot of the receiver, so she can have better throwing hands because the distance is decreased.

Try to throw in a few curve balls to make variations when your girls are already attuned with the drill. As time progresses, try to make things a little bit more difficult by putting some obstacles in their base path such as a huge bag or a football dummy. This will make the pivot foot of the player a bit more challenged. Try to search for new softball drills to keep your team competitive.

Powerful Softball Drills that Every Coach and Player Must Know

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Powerful softball drill is really a great key for a team to achieve their goal of winning. These drills are very essential because this are the adequate time for every player to learn the ins and outs of the game and for every coach to teach all the necessary skills like the proper hitting, fielding, and pitching. If you are a coach then it will be up for you to decide which drills are appropriate and which will be best for your team. This is because you are the only who knows what they truly needed. You feel what they are feeling and you empathize with their emotions.

Here are some of the best and powerful softball drills that you need to know:

Yes, the main reason why your team is having softball drills is to practice but then try to incorporate some fun during these times. One of the most famous drills is called the Knockout. This type of drill will test your player’s capability when it comes to throwing and catching. The first thing to do is dividing your team into two groups. And then command them to go on the opposite direction of the field. You and your assistant can be the pitcher for each group. You must make sure that the drill is going to be fast. You will throw the ball to the first person. After catching it he will now throw it to the next one. There will be successive throws until the ball comes back to you. The team will get a point each time they have completed this. If anyone in the team doesn’t catch the ball there will no point for them. To make this softball drill a lot more fun, give some incentives to the winning team. For example, let them rest while the losing team is having a warm-up. They will surely like this.

Another softball drill that is done by many is called Stepping Stones. This drill will teach your team the significance of cooperation and oneness. You will need pieces of cardboard. You are going to lay out seven pieces of these cardboard after you formed six groups. The middle must be empty. Give one of them a softball. Tell them that anyone of them who desire to move must be holding the ball so there is really a need for them to toss the ball to each other and catch it and that will be the only time that they can move. This drill will certainly involve team building. And they also practice catching and throwing at the same time. See how fun softball drills can be. It can actually become stressful only if you know how to handle the moments well. The fun starts when everybody is participating so always make sure that you have the ability to include team-building strategies on every practice and softball drill that you have in your plan. The more challenging they are, the more energetic the players will become.

Why is there a Need for Softball Drills?

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Do you have any idea on why drills are important in any sport? In softball, a series of softball drills are done by the players before they go and compete for a major competition. They are doing this because drills are the time for them to grow and develop. This is the time wherein they honed their skills so that they can the best player that they could be. This is also the time wherein they let the coach correct their mistakes so that during the game there will not be a problem anymore.

Players are undergoing softball drills because they want to improve in the field of fielding, hitting, and, throwing. The coach must give different tests for him to know which among his players still need a hand on the said fields. Drills are really challenging. They are even tricky and demanding. They require full time and full effort to have a long-lasting effect.

During the softball drills, the coach must help his players to reach his potential because it is only this time that a player really learns. This is the time for preparation and everyone must do his part in order to keep a harmonious way of employing the softball drills.

The coach must be present every time his team is having a softball drill because he will be the one to monitor them one by one. This is really a vital task of a coach and a tough one at that. Every day, after a drill is done, the coach must conduct a meeting. He can use chalkboards and chalk to write and really point out some of the important issues. This meeting will be the time wherein the coach discusses about each player’s improvement and mistakes. This is also the time when the coach reminds his players their greatest goals and that is to win.

Another effective softball drill is through the help of some presentations and videos. The coach must let his players watch videos of a softball game and let them see the magnificent methods the players in the videos are showing. The players will be inspired because of that. On the other hand, a need to point out the mistakes and the wrong moves of the players on the videos is also needed. The coach must tell the players that they must avoid committing the same mistakes or else they will not achieve their goal.

The things that I have just mentioned are just some examples of drills and few reasons why it is necessary. Now maybe you have the idea on why these drills are important. You have to realize them now or else you will have the regrets forever.

The softball drills are very much essential so that every player will earn a discipline not only because he is part of the team or just because he has a next game. The softball drills are done simply because you are preparing them for life. You are making them benefit from the rewards of physical strength and mental ability that they can use in their future endeavors.

Incorporate Fun and Enjoyment While Having Softball Drills

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Taking softball drills more seriously should be your major aim in order to be an excellent softball player. But most of the time, you are taking it beyond what is necessary. You are taking it to the point that your life is revolving around it and you get disappointed and frustrated easily the moment that you are not doing it right. Long practice and focus is needed in softball drills.

You are spending most of your time here and you seem to set aside some other important things. The question is, “Are you happy with what you are doing? Are you enjoying it? Do you think success is more enjoyable if you reach it with a smile on your face?”

Yes, softball drills are not a joke. But doing this doesn’t necessarily mean that you will be 100% serious. You must also incorporate fun and enjoyment while doing it. A task or a drill can easily be done if you are having fun, don’t you think?

Here are some of the most significant reasons why you must incorporate fun and enjoyment while you and your teammates are doing your softball drills:

To make the drills a lot easier. Doing these drills can be difficult. Just imagine, you have to learn pitching, hitting, and running. These tasks can be hard sometimes. The techniques in these skills are also hard to understand. But incorporating fun and enjoyment while doing these things can make it a lot easier. You may be wondering why. It is due to the fact that you are doing it while you are enjoying. You will never recognize difficulties and exhaustion if you are having fun right? Having fun and being creative in drills can do wonders. Throwing is not just merely throwing and hitting is not just merely hitting. The reason why a lot of players seem to have no improvement when it comes to the field of throwing and hitting is because they just simply see it as merely throwing and hitting, nothing more. Because of these, they seem to be lazy in practicing because they don’t see these things in a different light. As a coach, you must develop a more creative throwing and hitting drills to get your player’s attention. Once creative drills are introduced to them, they will have fun executing it and eventually they will also improve at it. Some players want to have fun; they don’t want to be very serious. Some coach tends to overlook at this thing. Maybe you are a very serious player but then some of your teammates are not like you. Some of them are tired of doing the same things over and over again and they want something new. Even if you are contented with the drills that you are doing right now, for sure you will enjoy more if your coach teaches a new drill that you and your teammates haven’t encountered before. To prevent things from getting boring. You have been doing the same drills for drills now. At first, you and your teammates are enjoying it but after some time you noticed that some of your teammates are bored of doing them because your team is taking them more seriously. The pressure and serious mode makes your team dull. Some of your teammates are not even looking forward for the next softball drills. So you see fun and enjoyment are really important.

Attitudes that wok best in any softball drills

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Planning for a team building is a very hard task. If you are a coach in such a team most particularly in softball, you have the tendency to focus most of your time in the development of their attitudes because you believe that a team without a good attitude even though it wins will never become a true winner at the end of the day.

A team is as strong as its strongest member. A team cannot live by one player working alone. A team is not one, it is all for one, and one for all. A team is definitely a group of individuals who are fighting for the same or common cause. A team shall therefore work according to its capacity and that capacity should be built more in order to generate more capabilities. Once a team encourages an increase of its efforts, this already means that there is something that is constantly motivating them.

The coach should also see how a team is being motivated so that he will achieve on thinking of more and more strategies that will make his team more and more motivated. It is also important that a coach shall make an effort of treating his team more passionately so that the members can feel that while they are away from their families, they still have a family in the name of their team. Building a family-like team is really needed so that everything will run according to its pace.

There is also a need for every coach and every player to have attitudes that will serve as their motivation before they plan on starting off their softball drills. The attitudes must also be learned selflessly. This means that your goodness should be shared with other team so that every team will also play with the same vision as yours, that is, to play a clean and fun game.

The rightful knowledge of the things underlying each softball drills must be studied carefully so prior to its implementation, you will explain to the players what attitude you shall use in the achievement of the certain softball drill that you have to train them.

As a coach, you must also understand that your team members vary from each other. It is therefore needed that while you are incorporating different attitudinal skills to your softball players, you fairly evaluate those players who are having a hard time making their bad attitudes turn into a good one. Try as much as possible to identify the cause of this. The moment that you have discovered the reason for the problem, you may talk with the concerned individual. It is important that both of you should talk in private so that you will show respect his personal life.

The job of a coach is not only confined inside every court. It goes beyond what the public eye can see. It is more on becoming a teacher, a second parent and a best friend to their players. Without the coaches’ patience, determination and love for the players and the game, there will be no success, real success.

Qualities that a Coach Must Have during Softball Drills

Posted by admin Comments (0)

Few months from now, you and your team will be into a big softball competition. You will be facing some of the world’s greatest team. You are nervous but at the same time you are happy because being on that prestigious competition means they are also considering your team to be one of the best.

But then you must not be contented on the abilities and skills that your team possesses now. You must not depend on that and on luck alone. Being able to join that competition does not mean that you have to stop there and be contented. This just means that you have to work twice or even thrice than before. You just can’t simply bring those people who are relying on you down.

In preparation for that big game, you as the team’s coach must be the head of the softball drills. Softball drills are really needed so that your players will improved their talents and skills when it comes to hitting, pitching, and running. But then again you must not forget that you must not be contented in the traditional drills that your team has been doing for a long time now. While having softball drills, what are the qualities that a coach must have? Here are they:

Creative and innovative. As I have said, you must not be contented in the traditional drills because your opponent teams already have up to date drills to improve the players. You must see to it that you always have something new. Be creative and innovative in your drills. Your players will surely love this and they will persevere more because the drills are not boring and new. They will have fun and at the same time they will also learn new techniques which can help them a lot. To be able to create some new drills, you can read some books and magazines to get some ideas. You can also watch some videos of some games or better yet, do some research online and for sure you can see lots of drills out there which you can impart to your team. Be patient. This is a very important quality for a coach. There will be times that your players cannot do or perfect the drills at once. There are lots of reasons why they are like that. Maybe they are already tired or maybe the drill is just too hard to follow. You must be patient and try to control your temper. You must learn to understand their situation also. Yelling at them all the time will not have a good effect on them. Know when to give praises. If a player is doing great during the drills, you must give him some praises. Praises are needed to boost the confidence of a player. If they know that they are doing the right thing they will continue to improve that. But remember, you must not overdo this. Overdoing this will have a bad effect on your players.
