Perfect Indoor Softball Drills During the Off Season

Posted by admin Comments (1)

If you are coaching a softball team, you need to keep each of your players in top condition with some effective softball drills. But what if the weather outside is not cooperating? Of course, the best place to practice would be inside a gymnasium. There are actually a number of indoor places for teams who want to perform softball drills. They can practice inside the gymnasium and run some indoor softball drills to remain competitive and in tip top shape in time for the softball season.

One of the things to practice during your indoor softball drills is the team’s hitting. Besides, it is one of the most vital aspects in this sport. However, it can really be difficult to implement a softball hitting drill for your team in an indoor gymnasium. Your players may not be able to experience a real batting practice with a real pitcher. All you can do to help your players get back into the batting mood is to have a batting practice using a pitching machine.

But how will your players have a quality practice using a pitching machine? In fact, some players think that hitting a softball off a tee is just a waste of time.  They say that playing tee ball is like going back to the basics when they were in grade school. However, try to persuade your player that this drill can really be useful in the long run when the weather outside is not yet permitting. In time they will see the usefulness of this softball hitting drill and they will be willing to do it.

The player’s stance and the position of his hands and arms should be a concern when hitting off a tee. Then make sure that your player step forward with his front foot, while his back foot is remained planted then swings the bat powerfully at the ball. The player must also make sure that he keeps his head down on the ball. As a coach, you can help your players to be great softball hitters by observing them while they hit off the tee. You can then correct them in areas you think need some correcting.

But how will your players deal hitting off a machine? Of course, it differs a lot compared to a live pitcher. But pitching machines are what you can only use in indoor softball drills. One of the advantages of pitching machines is that you can adjust the speed so your players can get into the rhythm in hitting the ball. Remind your players to try to hit the ball back to the pitching machine in this hitting drill. Hitting off a pitching machine is also a great way for your players to practice bunting. Bunting has been a lost art with the players of today. Your players can start practicing bunting while they are indoors. This way they will be able to do it really well during the games.
